IICP Educational Philosophy
The unique integrative approach offers a broad structure to professionals who are dealing with a diverse range of clients and presenting problems. IICP offer a unique learner-centred environment. Students are given the space to study, to practice and to be supported as they develop for themselves a style and model of counselling which is both personal and effective.
The ethos of IICP reflects the Quality School model of CT/RT/LM, which promotes the following goals:
- A warm, safe environment that is free from fear, criticism and coercion.
- Clear and direct communication that enhance relationships and foster an environment conducive for learning.
- Clear goals and plans to maximise the training experience.
- A contract of learning that clarifies roles and responsibilities for learners and tutors.
- Consistent feedback utilising self-evaluation, concurrent evaluation and co-verification.
A need satisfying environment where choice and personal responsibility will enrich creativity and promote the development of competent and confident practitioners.
The Village Counselling Service
IICP played a pivotal role in the establishment and in the ongoing development of a pioneering mental health service, namely, the Village Counselling Service. This service is now firmly established within the Tallaght area and is supported and funded by the Health Service Executive and the Family Support Agency.
The Village Counselling Service was set up with the support of a group of local mental health care professionals who recognised the importance of an accessible and professional service that could be available to anyone in the Community.
The service is has charitable status and is a not-for-profit organisation. Trainee counsellors at IICP are offered internships at VCS and offer counselling on a voluntary basis. This service is offered ‘on-site’ at the Killinarden Enterprise Park.
