IICP ARE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE A VERY SPECIAL TWO DAY WORKSHOP WITH PROFESSOR JOHN MCLEOD ENTITLED:

TWO DAY WORKSHOP: AN INTRODUCTION TO A PLURALISTIC FRAMEWORK FOR COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY PRACTICE

FRI & SAT 2 & 3 November 2012

INTRODUCTION

There is an increasing acknowledgment, across the field of counselling and psychotherapy, that no single model of therapy provides all the answers.  Many counsellors and psychotherapists describe themselves as integrationist, combining different ways of working from different therapeutic orientations.  However, there are few guidelines available regarding how best to combine ideas and methods, in the interest of the client.  The pluralistic framework for counselling and psychotherapy practice specifies a set of strategies for creatively drawing on a multiple therapeutic practices and theories, in a way that maximises the client’s involvement in the therapy process, and makes active use of the cultural resources available to the client. This course provides an introduction to these ideas, and will be interesting and relevant both to experienced practitioners, and students in training.

 WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

The core ethos of IICP is to provide a participant-centred, warm and supportive learning environment. The programme is highly interactive, experiential and taught through lectures, small group work and role-play.

 The programme will focus on:

  • providing an outline of a pluralistic framework for practice
  • practical ways of involving clients in the process of therapy

Learning activities will include lecture inputs, experiential work, and discussion of case material.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

This course will be of interest to professionals and volunteers who work with clients in counselling or mental health services in general. It will be of particular interest to counsellors, psychotherapists, guidance counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses and doctors. For persons requiring evidence of Continuing Professional Development, the Certificate of Attendance will state the number of hours of attendance.
